In her studio and gallery on the Cowichan River, Cathi Jefferson is surrounded by the thing that most inspires her: the sacred trees of the west coast rain forest that she refers to as “the lungs of our planet.”  Her passion for nature is expressed through her pottery as she “feels a deep connection to the fathomless energy and beauty in nature and strives for this sense with clay.”  Cathi produces sculptural and functional salt-fired stoneware, each piece is decorated with designs from nature.  Her high-firing process creates very light and durable pottery, suitable for everyday use.    She believes that using handmade objects in your everyday life elevates ordinary tasks to special events and increases the joy of living.
Cathi feels very fortunate to be living is such a beautiful place.  Her studio and gallery is located on the Cowichan River and is surrounded by beautiful parkland.  She is in her studio most days, but it is a good idea to call ahead just to be sure.  It is easy to find her by following the blue Artisan signs that start on highway 18, 15 km west of highway #1 - well worth the trip.
