Michael Moore is an accomplished craftsman. From an early age he knew he wanted to be a woodworker, specifically a custom furniture maker. Michael is self-taught, learning from articles in popular woodworking magazines and from experience. With his diverse base of knowledge, Michael is able to create unique pieces for his clients while working within his own style.
As a native of Victoria, he grew up surrounded by spectacular scenery and wonderful forests. Michael has great knowledge of the indigenous tree species of Vancouver Island and much of his furniture is made from local woods such as Arbutus, Garry Oak and Western Maple. Milling logs, stacking wood and fine joinery are all part of his regular day.
In 2005,Michael and Pamella moved to the Cowichan Valley where together they built his dream workshop and their house with her dream kitchen. Much of their work is one-of-a-kind furniture commissions that incorporate curves, hand cut veneers and fine details in contrasting woods. Chairs are Michael’s specialty.
Michael believes, as George Nakashima did, that a tree should be honoured, by having the furniture lasting as long as the tree lived.
